A Note From Mr. Watson

Superintendent, Kelton ISD

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff, I welcome you to Kelton School.  Kelton School was founded in 1904 and is located in the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle and encompasses approximately 134 square miles.

Kelton School prides itself in offering small classes in offering grades- Pre Kindergarten through grade eight for the 80 students currently attending.  In addition to the basic education offerings, Kelton has a full-time certified Physical Education teacher to reinforce healthy lifestyles for the students. The school also offers a special music teacher for all students with an emphasis on acting in the upper grade levels.  Each classroom has at least three computers available for student use. In grades 6-8, each student has access to their own wireless laptop computer for individual use in the classroom.  Students in Kindergarten through grade two receive individualized assistance in the Waterford Early Reading Program to accelerate their use of phonics and beginning reading skills.

Kelton School is a recognized school district by the Texas Education Agency. The students at Kelton school have traditionally excelled on state mandated assessment tests, including both the TAAS and the TAKS tests.  Kelton School encourages individual reading by students through recognition programs such as the Accelerated Reader Program. One reason for the school's success in reading and achievement tests is the high attendance standard set by the school and the students.  Six-week incentives are commonplace to recognize perfect attendance.

While many Panhandle school districts have experienced declining enrollments, Kelton school has shown significant growth in the last four years.  Kelton school accepts tranfers from neighboring school districts tuition free. The growth in school population is a direct result of the positive, caring environment and the learning success level.

We continue to look forward to a growing environment as well as the addition of an eighth grade for the 2004-2005 school year.
