Hedley High School's math and Science teams competed October 23rd at the Lubbock Coronado Invitational Math/Science meet against 9 other 1A-3A schools, finishing 4th in the sweepstakes award.  Hedley was one of four 1A schools at the meet and was the only 6-man school competing.  Senior, Stephen,  won a 2nd place medal in Number Sense, a 4th place ribbon in Science and 7th place in Math.  Will, also a senior, was 7th in Science.  Juniors, Holly and Carmen, placed 8th and 10th in Science respectively.  Sophomores, Betty, Ruth Anne, and Justin, placed 5th, 7th, and 8th in Calculator Applications, leading that team to a 4th place finish.  Freshmen, Kristen and Sam, both medaled by taking 2nd and 3rd places in their Science category.
Each team finished 4th, which was commendable considering the competition and Hedley's relatively small size and the lack of experience from this year's teams.  Bruce Howard, Hedley Science coach, notes that only 4 of the 15 Hedley competitors were involved in the math and science programs from last year.  Howard says, "We are basically starting our teams over from scratch, and we are very excited and proud of this new group of students who will sacrifice and work to become strong academic competitors.  By the time district competition rolls around we hope to have championship caliber teams again."
